Mindful rituals
How many conversations I've had where my generation has felt down about how the magic has sort of disappeared out of our daily lives, holidays, birthdays.
Thinking on this for a bit I came to the conclusion that our parents/grandparents/other adults in our lives created that magic.
It doesn't just happen, it is now our turn to make that happen for our littles and in turn we'll feel that magic return as well.
How I personally didn't realise that fact until now is still a bit beyond me to be honest..
Now I've come up with some mindful rituals, that can be implemented daily, weekly, whenever you feel like it, to create a little magic and perhaps structure in you and your littles days.
Something to make the day feel intentional and create a special moment that allows some together time.
Tea time.
Let them pick their favourite tea and make a big pot of it for on the dining table.
Some cookies, a baked cake or some bowls of fruit slices, whatever you guys fancy and check in with your kids about their day.
Adventure walk.
Even if it's the same old walk you can make it special by encouraging them to look for certain flowers, animals, buildings, etc.
We love a mystery walk, where we try to find secret paths, make up stories as we walk them.
Make a list of items they have to collect on their way.
Midweek pancakes.
Coming in after school or playing outside to a table with a big stack of pancakes is such a treat!
Apple slices, raisins, cinnamon or even bacon and cheese.
Bring out all the toppings, set the table nicely and create a weekly connection ritual that everyone enjoys.
Build a fort.
One can never have enough hiding places.
We've got a blanket and a pillow in an empty kitchen cupboard, a camouflage tent that can be set up within seconds and I find everywhere around the house/garden.
The treehouse is still a big hit. Filled with a treasure chest with things found outside, their favourite toys, curiosities on the walls and in nooks. Everything in place to create years of great play memories.
Big pillows and blankets between sofas and chairs you know the deal, kids don't need a lot to have a great time.
Story time.
This is pretty self explanatory. Whenever they want, but especially as a part of their bedtime routine, we read books.
At this moment in time we've read the Gruffalo so many times my oldest knows it by heart.
Reading them a book creates a moment which tells them it's time to slow down, relax and get immersed into a different world for a minute.
Dance party.
We love a good dance party in this house and they serve a few purposes.
One is obviously having fun together. The second is to get some pent up anything out, release a bit of energy. Next is exercise for the whole family and finally it's slyly introducing our preferred type of music to our kids, teach 'em young as they say!
These are just a few little ways to create some moments in your day with your kids with the intent to grow closeness and create some magic together.
I'll do another post on holiday traditions we enjoy together, some time later.
